Guide Client Comments

To those who have spent some time on the water with me, either boat or ice, I'd appreciate any comments; good, bad or the other.

  1. Wow, are we ever glad we found Marty in 2007 to take us walleye fishing on Lake Oahe (to us, “the Walleye Capital of the World”). We considered numerous guides listed on the internet for fishing Lake Oahe, but Marty’s down-to-earth personality and his love for fishing came through loud and clear on his site. We were a little apprehensive about booking a fishing trip more than 600 miles from home with someone we had never met, but visiting with Marty for a few minutes after we arrived in Mobridge erased any worry we had. We just wanted to hit the water and catch some fish. And catch some fish we did! Marty has an obvious talent for catching walleye. Marty took us to the hottest spots on the lake, let us use his best lures, and showed us an excellent time. We came back in 2008 and plan on fishing with Marty again in 2009. Let’s catch some walleye!

  2. Glenn Hansen and I have been shooting prairie dogs in South Dakota for several years, and each time we crossed the river at Mobridge I would suggest to Glenn that we take some time out from shooting and try the fishing. So we checked websites of local fishing guides and found Marty. Boy, are we glad we did! First of all his website is excellent. Great photos, good information, and a variety of options to try. Then his flexibility in scheduling helped us get on the water last June around our shooting plans. And did we catch fish! The action was constant and we caught a good variety of species including a limit of wonderful tasting walleyes. Glenn boated and released a hugh pike, and that picture is on Marty's website. We had a great time swapping stories and telling jokes, and we were awed by Marty's knowledge of the resource along with his willingness to share. We are already making plans for a return trip in 2009, and Marty's our man!

  3. Last year, my wife and I decided to treat ourselves to a guided fishing trip on the Oahe. Marty's website really caught my eye. We really liked his attitude for guiding and he has the best guarantee in the business! We were not disappointed! Marty really knew where and how to catch fish. We caught so many fish that my wife had bruised ribs from reeling them all in! She was having so much fun that by 10 a.m. she was talking to Marty about lining up this year's trip! And we had a great time visiting with Marty about everything from fishing to high school football. Thanks, Marty for all the great tips on leadlining. We used your advice and caught a lot of fish here in Minnesota. This year, we hope to catch the big fish of the year!

  4. Vicki and I had another great 2 days fishing with Marty. Due to the lake level coming up to full pool, the fishing reports from the web had not been too good, but we had confidence in Marty's ability to get us on the fish. And he didn't disappoint us. Besides a great two days fishing and getting our limit of walleyes each day, we had great conversation, fun, and laughter. Marty knew where to find the fish, and how to catch them. What a blast we had, especially when we "piped up" the 14 footers. If you want to know what that is, you'll just have to spend a day on the water with Marty. When we got back to our hotel after the first day, the manager asked how we did. He said some people had gone out with a local guide and caught only 1 fish. We felt bad for them, but couldn't help but brag about catching our limit on the Oahe. So if you want to have a great day on the water AND catch fish, Marty is the guide of choice. (Besides, look who just won the 2009 Mobridge Chamber Classic Tournament!)

  5. I was planning to bring my family to Mobridge for the 4th and we wanted to do some walleye fishing like I did when I was younger so I got on the Internet and found Martin's website www.experienceoahe.com. We emailed and talked and things sounded really good. I didn't know what exactly to expect, but anything I hoped for was greatly exceeded. It was the perfect fishing trip.

First, Marty's knowledge of walleye fishing the Oahe is excellent. Fishing walleyes on Oahe is a way and life for people that is passed on from generation to generation and I'm happy to report that the website is very aptly named. Not only is Marty authentic and knowledgeable, I finally found someone who knew "why" we did what we did walleye fishing - but I hoping as much when I learned he was a science teacher at the local high school. He was also great with kids and beginners. Along with us was my finance and our three children, 16, 11, and 7. He talked with all the kids and got them very comfortable while he worked with them and taught them what he could and also let me share what I knew. He is way more patient than me though! He made me totally forget how difficult fishing can be with a boat full of people, even when it was with a team of seasoned fishermen, and we were doing it with a crew of kids who had never done this before - and they were working together like pros!

Finally, the fishing was awesome. Hard to relate how much fun it was, but we were pulling out fish almost instantly and it didn't stop until we were done. I opted to only do four hours because I realized even that much time could be taxing on a seven year old, but I was glad I did because we all caught our limit by then anyway! If anyone is still wondering if the walleyes are back in Oahe, I can state I sure believe they are and if you are looking for a hassle free time and a great and personable guide who knows as much as anyone on the river, who has top notch equipment, and an awesome fishing boat - please give Martin a call or email. I don't think you will regret it.
